The Inspiration

Diane's love of science began at a young age, when she won the science fair in 5th grade. At age 16 she took an anatomy and physiology class, and she knew then she wanted to work in the medical field as a nutritionist. In college she became interested in psychology, and early in her career developed a passion for helping women and men to listen to their bodies and eat without guilt, anxiety or shame. She continues to enjoy looking at her clients health from a holistic viewpoint, and merging her knowledge of science, medicine and psychology.

Education and Training

Diane completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Nutrition from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Kappa Phi. She completed her medical internship at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in San Diego, CA, and in 1985 became a Registered Dietitian (RD). After working on an eating disorders unit for three years and receiving training in cognitive behavioral therapy, she went back to school and earned a Master of Science degree (MS) in Nutritional Science from California State University, Long Beach. Her Master's thesis was original research in the field of eating disorders, and in 1990 she graduated on the Dean's List of University Scholars and Artists.

In 2014, after treating eating disorders for 29 years, Diane began to study epigenetics, nutrigenomics, functional nutrition, methylation defects and the MTHFR gene mutation. Since then she has provided many consultations for clients with the MTHFR mutation using genetic data (23 and me), laboratory testing and clinical evaluation to greatly improve symptoms such as chronic fatigue, gastrointestinal issues, histamine intolerance, mast cell issues, joint pain, brain fog, chronic pain and other symptoms.

In 2014, after beginning to see numerous adults and children with food allergies, she became Certified in Food Allergies by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She does not utilize IgG or LEAP/MRT testing for food allergies, as it has not been found to be scientifically valid. Diane works with several board certified food allergists, who conduct scientifically valid tests to determine if a patient has food allergies, along with an elimination diet as needed.

Work Experience

Diane has treated men, women and children with all types of eating disorders, addictions and health concerns for the past 30 years. She has worked in several eating disorder, chemical dependency, and wellness outpatient, inpatient and residential treatment programs, making her an expert in these areas. Ten years ago she began to specialize in treating diabetes and PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). Her love for writing is reflected in the numerous publications she has authored for professionals and consumers, including her column in "Eating Disorders Today." She taught the class on Nutrition and Eating Disorders at Saddleback College for five years, and Medical Nutrition Therapy to nursing students at Cal State Long Beach for two years. Diane has presented at many professional conferences for physicians, nurses, therapists and dietitians on topics including nutrition therapy for anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, food addiction, menopause, childhood obesity, obsessive compulsive disorder, drug and alcohol addiction, mood disorders, childhood eating disorders, the use of psychotropic medications and supplements, and the effects of chronic dieting.

In 2014 she shifted her focus towards using functional nutrition to heal chronic illnesses. She enjoys working up complex medical cases to help clients feel better and get back on the road to better health, including all gastrointestinal diseases, dysautonomia, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). She currently provides online nutrition counseling using a secure internet portal.
